FAQs

  • If you have questions regarding how to obtain your marriage license, here is a link to the City of Alexandria Clerk’s Office website:

  • Unfortunately, I am not able to provide any legal advice or information regarding the name change process. Information packets are available from the Alexandria Law Library here: Adult Name Change Packet; Minor Name Change Packet, or by calling (703) 746-4077.

  • Please note that the Alexandra Courthouse does not allow you to bring a phone inside. Please bring a quarter to lock it in a locker in the Courthouse or leave it in your car.

  • Although I typically meet couples in front of or near the City of Alexandria Courthouse, I occasionally meet couples in locations other than the Courthouse. If you have a specific request, please contact me directly at alxcelebrant@gmail.com.

  • Yes, I will bring a completed copy of your ceremonial certificate when we meet and then swap it for the blank copy provided to you by the Clerk’s Office. The ceremonial certificate is not the certified, legal marriage certificate.

  • I am required to return the marriage licenses to the Clerk’s Office within five days of the date of marriage. I typically return marriage licenses earlier than five days (often within a day or two).

  • Both! I am happy to simply review, sign and return your marriage license (i.e. handle the legal aspect of things), particularly for those who wish to save the ceremonial aspect of the wedding for another date, time or location.

I also perform brief ceremonies in front of the City of Alexandria Courthouse or elsewhere close by (City Hall or the Carlyle House Gardens, for example). Once you book an appointment you will receive an email with ceremony templates for you to review and revise as you see fit.

  • All services cost $75.00, as this price is set by law. I accept cash, CashApp and Venmo. You are welcome to provide payment when we meet or beforehand if you prefer.

  • To ensure the marriage license is correct before we meet, I request that all couples provide a scanned copy or of your marriage license (when you obtain it) and your IDs to alxcelebrant@gmail.com.

If you are concerned about it, send in an encrypted format.

  • No! Witnesses are not required in Virginia.
